For this #ThrowbackThursday blog hop post, I’m remembering Goober from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Goober has recently passed, sadly, but I do have found memories of this wonderful guy.
This was a section from Day 3: First day volunteering in Dogtown – Best Friends Volunteer Week originally posted on July 10th, 2010 during our trip to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
Goober apparently has only been on one sleepover and one outing, although being at BF for some time. I heard in the past he had difficulty with car rides, in that items could end up chewed (this was not a worry, as we’re not in a rental this time!) Goober was very well behaved in our car, merely joining me by standing on the console, and giving me a few kisses on the way into town. If he wasn’t on the console, Goober sat on the back seat simply watching the world go by. We went and picked up my husband, who joined us on the rest of the outing to Angel Landing.
Waiting for Peter to come to the car. I think Goober wants to drive with that sneaky look on his face…
Goober had a blast, sniffing all the grass, bushes, trees, and hanging out by the water. Or in the water! There were only a couple other dogs, so it was easy to stay far away from them (Goober seemed very intense when he saw the other dogs, so this was a good thing to have so much space).
Goober wanted to sniff every inch of Angel Landing
Until a dog arrived in the distance
Oh wait… is that a treat bag? That’s better than a dog!
Look how well behaved I am!
A group of kids came by, and Goober greeted everyone with such enthusiasm – a full body wag, and then almost leaping for joy from all the attention. I could see his little doggy confidence being boosted “look at me! center of attention! they like me!” But he was such a good boy, and showed of his excellent skill set to some of the kids. Goober is the master of at least sit, down, and paw. Because he tried all three when he saw the treat bag come out “ok, which one do you want… sit, down, or paw” before I could even ask for one. When the kids asked him to do any of the above, he was very happy to oblige. Later on when I sat on the grass, his “down” for a treat was half across my lap! Such a friendly fellow.
