Because today is National Love Your Pet Day, my ThrowbackThursday content is this passage I wrote in 2010:

Love them every day like it may be their last.

The one thing you learn so quickly about AIHA is that it strikes swift and hard. The symptoms are so subtle that they’re easy to miss, and it can almost be “too late” when you finally pick up on something being wrong. There’s a chance you can be too late, with this and every other sudden form of death. And from that I learned to make the most of everything that you have, every day, with your loved ones both two-legged and four-legged.

Now go kiss your dog, and give them the best walk ever.

And to fast forward to a related thought from today, here my response to this question on the Beagles and Bargains Facebook page: How do you show your pet how much you love them?

By trying my best: to make the best decisions I can for their health and wellbeing, to not show them I’m stressed (often by using them to de-stress!), to give them my full attention often and my partial attention when I need to do something else, to talk to them regularly, to take lots of photos, and to remember to smile and have fun and
