Because today is National Love Your Pet Day, my ThrowbackThursday content is this passage I wrote in 2010:

Love them every day like it may be their last.

The one thing you learn so quickly about AIHA is that it strikes swift and hard. The symptoms are so subtle that they’re easy to miss, and it can almost be “too late” when you finally pick up on something being wrong. There’s a chance you can be too late, with this and every other sudden form of death. And from that I learned to make the most of everything that you have, every day, with your loved ones both two-legged and four-legged.

Now go kiss your dog, and give them the best walk ever.

And to fast forward to a related thought from today, here my response to this question on the Beagles and Bargains Facebook page: How do you show your pet how much you love them?

By trying my best: to make the best decisions I can for their health and wellbeing, to not show them I’m stressed (often by using them to de-stress!), to give them my full attention often and my partial attention when I need to do something else, to talk to them regularly, to take lots of photos, and to remember to smile and have fun and live.every.day.like.it.could.be.our.last.

How do you love your pet? Show us by adding something to our #ThrowbackThursday blog hop, co hosted by Dolly the Doxie and DOGthusiast.

Goodness you have to think about it, but first by providing them shelter and food, then affection and anything else are just extras like treats and toys!

    • it’d be interesting to know for sure how the dogs rate those things :) I wonder if Mort would choose the toy and my throwing arm over the rest of me. He might!

This is great! You know I see it all over instagram about Love your Pet day but I was just saying that not many pet bloggers have mentioned it or even remembered… including myself. Whoops, I was being Thoughtless this Thursday! Anyhow, great post and great reminder. The only other site I saw this posted in was Spencer the Goldendoodle!

Actually I was just thinking that we may be one of the luckier pups who do feel the love everyday. So blessed.
